This is the third in a series of 4 programs on corner grocery stores. In i915 there were 33 grocery stores in Bennington, Vermont, along with 4 bakeries, 7 fruit markets and 3 shops selling fish and oysters. These stores were eventually replaced by large super market chains. This program focuses on Willy’s Variety Store which has been in business since 1946. Before that it was an A & P and before that it was a saloon. The program also looks at some of the other stores that were on Gage Street and are now gone.
